I Vibe Coded and I'm Not Sorry!!

AI (Artificial Intelligence), a word which needs no introduction in today's world either in Technology space or in Normal World.

Normal People use AI to create the content or media, Software engineers use to automate their tasks like code generation, code review or test generation.

Before 5-6 months, I was hesitant to use AI even the "ChatGPT", since I thought it might make me lazy or not let me to learn the new things. But now that, I am using Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude.Ai: they actually helps me experiment with the things I wanted to do for the long time and unable to do because I don't have enough time to work on. Not just that these tool make the code develop fast, learn the things faster than before.

What I Built

I have a habit of making the timetables, schedules, tracking the things etc.. But to maintain all things I had to download load of apps, and I always felt some features are missing which I needed explicitly or I have to pay for those feature to use.

I always thought of building these essential apps with all the features I needed all by myself and store in the database I own. In a way that, I can add the features at my will and as I wanted. But I COULD NOT, because I don't get the time to build all the things.

So, I bought the claude subscription and started VIBE CODING, yes I started vibe coding, once I considered as bad thing for work or to learn. Guess what, I have built two whole new applications:

1. Expense Tracker: To maintain my overall expenses

2. Habit Tracker: To keep track of my habits

I built Expense Tracker over the weekend. Not weeks or Not months - a Weekend, to be precise a single day. I just told what I wanted, how should it look, what technologies to be used. Since I have prior knowledge on how web application works, I was able to understand what it is doing.

Does this made lazy? A difficult question to answer. Why? Because I didn't code much of the application 😅, but during entire development phase, it kept me thinking of what I want, how those should be and it let me focus on the things that are important instead of boilerplate code.

The difference is: before, I spent 80% of my time on boilerplate. Now I spend 80% of my time on the actual problem.

Where I stand now

I'm not saying AI replaces learning. If I didn't understand databases or how the web works, I'd be completely lost even with AI. The fundamentals still matter, maybe more than ever, because now you need to evaluate what AI gives you, not just copy it.

But if you've had a project sitting in your head for two years because you "don't have time", that excuse is gone now.

Build the Things you want.

PS: With the applications I am vibe coding, I can save some money 😅
